| | | | HLS is NASA's initiative to create a Virtual Constellation of surface reflectance data from the Operational Land Imager (OLI) and Multi-Spectral Instrument (MSI) aboard the Landsat 8-9 and Sentinel-2 satellites. The resulting collection has a resolution of 30 m and a revisit time of 2-3 days. Data is available globally since April 2013. Read more and explore the collection in EO Browser. | |

| | Asynchronous Process API Update |
| | The documentation is now available |
| | The asynchronous equivalent to the Process API, intended for larger requests where you don't need the results immediately, will go into public beta in a few weeks. As mentioned in our last newsletter, it will work similarly to the Process API, with a few differences. You can find more information in our new documentation. The service is scheduled for release at the end of the year, but as said, it is already moving towards public availability. If you're interested in trying it out now, let us know. |

| | How to Normalize Satellite Images for Deep Learning |
| | Tackling the long-tailed satellite imagery data in deep learning applications |
| | Normalization of satellite imagery can help our deep learning models. They are a powerful tool for extracting information from images and have been used for various purposes with much success. However, some specifics of satellite images are not always accounted for in the steps of deep learning - our models need to handle the variability of large geographical areas and the distinctly long-tailed satellite signals. Read our blog post to find out more about our exploration of image variability and normalization. |

| | PlanetScope Item Type PSScene4Band Deprecated |
| | In accordance with the deprecation of the PSScene4Band item type by Planet, it's also been deprecated in Sentinel Hub. As of November 1st, it's no longer possible to order or subscribe to PSScene4Band data, and on November 14th existing subscriptions were discontinued. Instead, the new item type PSScene should be used to order or subscribe to new data. Existing PSScene4Band data already ingested into your BYOC collections will of course still be available. |

| | | Other Sentinel Hub Updates |
| | As already announced on our Forum, we will be introducing a few changes and improvements on December 5th, 2022. - Support for signed integer output options for TIFF files - If you are outputting TIFF files, INT8 and INT16 will become valid sampleType values in your evalscript.
- Better default DEM - The default demInstance for DEM requests will be changed from MAPZEN to COPERNICUS_30 if requested on the AWS eu-central deployment.
- Better default DEM for Sentinel-1 processing - The default demInstance for processing Sentinel-1 requests with terrain correction (orthorectification) is also changing from MAPZEN to COPERNICUS on the AWS eu-central deployment.
In case any of these changes affect you please make the applicable modifications before this comes into effect. |

| | | Introducing snow and ice monitoring algorithm |
| | Learn all about the SICE (Operational Sentinel-3 Snow and Ice Products) algorithm in our blog post and see how its products can be used to observe snow and ice properties of snow covered areas around the globe. We dive into why snow and ice monitoring is important and how SICE products, such as albedo, snow grain diameter or diagnostic retrieval, can help us monitor our ice sheets. Explore changes in Southern Greenland through time and discover alarming decrease in snow cover through the recent years. Find freely available, already processed SICE data, browse them in our PolarTEP viewer and order data on demand within the EDC. |

| | | In person meeting at the Vito headquarter in Mol, Belgium |
| | Together with our project partners from EODC, EGI, EURAC, VITO and WWU Münster we spent three days at Vito to discuss, exchange and plan. Now we're ready for 2023. Among other things, we discussed our latest use case for NO₂-Monitoring, a new on-demand process graph preview feature utilizing the Sentinel Hub openEO backend, and made concrete plans for the next months. Are you curious to try out openEO Plaform? Sign up as an Early Adopter or apply directly for one of the ESA-funded NoR packages. |
